Self-Service UI

The Self-Service UI (SSUI) allows administrators to monitor and manage their SaaS environments, without requiring assistance from Stibo Systems Support.

Administrators can access the SSUI with an updated URL to include your account information:

https://[account].selfservice.mdm.stibosystems.com

Once logged into the SSUI, the following information and activities are available:

  • Environments - view the status of environments available with your account, manage login screen welcome text and 'Forgot STEP password' link availability, manage updates, access control, manage sensitive configuration files, edit configuration properties, and review external security event log entries. Refer to the SSUI Configuration Properties section below.

  • Update preview sandbox - create a time-limited update preview sandbox to try out the latest STEP update.

  • Modular Services - maintain extension services configured for the environment.

  • Calendar - review update and maintenance schedules.

  • User activity log - track changes made to environments.

  • User guide - read detailed descriptions and instructions about features available in the SSUI.

Managing SSUI User Access and Authentication

The following options are available for SSUI user access and authentication:

  • Recommended External authentication — federated authentication through an identity provider (IDP) — allows admins to perform the following activities without submitting Stibo Systems Service Portal tickets:

    • Add and/or remove users.

    • Set the desired authentication method, such as multifactor authentication (MFA) using an app or mobile message.

    • Control user access with role-based access control (RBAC). Initial configuration by the Stibo Systems Support team is required for RBAC, which is defined in the SSUI 'User guide'.

  • Local authentication — user accounts are configured locally; credentials are managed separately and can be used only for the SSUI. With this option:

    • You must submit a request in the Stibo Systems Service Portal to add, remove, or update a user. To enable the forget password functionality, include an email address in the request.

    • User accounts cannot be shared. It is mandatory to use MFA through a mobile app.

    • All users have full access to all SSUI functionality. RBAC is not available with this option.

SSUI Configuration Properties

Configuration properties are used to control a variety of elements, such as values in a delivery method's dropdown parameter, the location of a secret key used for an SSH connection, defining legal file name characters for assets, and announcement messages for Web UI.

Configuration properties that are available in the SSUI are defined in online help within the relevant topic. For example, the configuration properties that control the color and text on the environment badge in workbench are defined in the STEP Workbench UI topic within the Getting Started documentation.

To configure a property, log into the SSUI, select the environment, and on the 'Configuration properties' tab, set the property for your system. Once logged into the SSUI, refer to the 'User guide' for more information about setting configuration properties.

FixSpecific Properties

Configuration properties with the 'FixSpecific' designation control functionality related to a particular support issue. Setting a FixSpecific property to 'true' allows a customer to test a fix in their own environment with the ability to remove the functionality by setting the property to 'false'. Once a fix is fully tested and approved for general release, the FixSpecific property is no longer required, and the next SaaS update will automatically include the fix.

For example, a customer creates a support issue, and the engineering support team fix requires testing in the customer's environment. The engineering support team will provide the details of the SaaS image that includes the fix and the name of the FixSpecific property (such as 'FixSpecific.ISSUE12345') that needs to be set. The customer can update their environment in the SSUI to use the provided SaaS image, and afterwards the FixSpecific property is displayed in the 'Configuration properties' tab for the environment. By setting this property to ‘true’, the fix is active on the environment and can be tested. Successful testing confirms the fix, and the next SaaS update image automatically includes the fix, and the FixSpecific property is no longer required.

Considerations

  • Allow a few minutes for changes made in the SSUI 'Configuration properties' tab to be displayed in the workbench.

  • Some changes may require you to restart the user interface (i.e., the workbench or Web UI) before they take effect.

  • If the properties you need are not shown in the SSUI, submit an issue within the Stibo Systems Service Portal to complete the configuration.
